Intimacy Retreats are individual one-on-one counselling sessions for couples who are in need of support immediately. Those in a crisis or who would like to work through their problems faster should take advantage of this program. Counseling can often break through a lot of trauma. Rather than waiting seven days for your next counseling appointment or trying to arrange a day that works for both of you, you simply devote an entire day to your relationship. This format is designed to help you fast-track your counselling journey.
Prior to the session, we can Zoom for 15 minutes to ensure you are eligible and we are a fit for each other. Select free 15min consult here. Alternatively, drop me an email outlining 1) what is the situation that brings you to seek help? 2) what you would like to accomplish? 3) what would you expect from me, as your therapist? This can help me plan for your session and understand the unique dynamics that are occurring in your relationship.
An intensive therapy session may be scheduled as follows:
12.30-2 pm Lunch+/Walk
2 pm-4 pm Session (This may be split between 1 hour for each partner)
You must be aware that a one-day intensive is not likely to solve all your problems at once. This work will however give you a better chance of getting to the heart of the matter in complex issues or crises to go to deeper levels more safely. It often takes months or even years to bring yourself into a therapist’s office. Initially, you may find it difficult to access emotions, feelings, and communicate if you have never been to therapy before. Couples therapy often involves psychoeducation about conflict patterns and methods of communicating in a non-blaming, non-shaming way. Following the initial session, follow-up sessions are recommended to reflect on any changes in behavior and learn more about the therapeutic insights gained.
These sessions are usually held on a weekend, so there is no need to go back into the office still processing trauma related to the sessions. After an intensive session, it is recommended that you schedule some rest time or self-care activity like a walk or a massage.
